Important Information Regarding Services

I would like to update you about what is happening following the NI Executive’s announcement that churches may re-open for worship from 29th June.

The Presbyterian Church in Ireland has issued detailed guidelines which all Kirk Sessions must follow on how we must go about this. Certain measures must be put in place before public worship can recommence. First, the present social distancing guidelines of 2 metres remains in force for churches. This means that we will be very limited in the number of people we could accommodate in either of our meetinghouses.

The Kirk Sessions will be looking at our options, but it will take some time before we can begin to hold services in the churches again. The Templepatrick Presbytery has issued the guidelines which state:

To ensure all precautions are taken, it is advised to consider not implementing public worship services, which are open to all, until September 2020.

In the meantime we plan to continue with the on-line Thought for the Week videos and printed summary, but also to expand the videos to include a short Children’s talk and also involve others, including, we hope, some of our musicians. By the way, I still haven’t received any videos of you doing your favourite bible verse or story to include in the videos!!

I indicated last week that there was a provisional plan to hold a Drive-in Church Service on Sunday 5th July in the Car Park at Loanends Church. Having explored all the practical aspects of this, we believe that this is not a viable option at present.

We will keep you posted on future plans, which, like those of the government, could change quite quickly!

John.

Re- Opening of Churches

As you will appreciate, with the ever-changing situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic, it has been very difficult for us to make plans for the future. The NI Executive has now announced an indicative date when churches may re-open for worship – 29th June. However, if the present social distancing guidelines of 2 metres remains, we will be very limited in the number of people we could accommodate in either the Killead or the Loanends Meeting house. If the social distancing were to be reduced to 1 metre or 1.5 metres it would make things easier, but capacity would still be limited. Guidance on this will be released by the General Assembly after the date of re-opening has been confirmed next Thursday. The Kirk Sessions will then be looking at our options, but at the moment our plan is to continue with the Thought for the Week videos and printed summary. The Kirk Session have made a provisional plan to hold united Drive-in Church Services on Sunday 5th July in the Car Park at Loanends Church with a format similar to the Thought for the Week lasting about 30 minutes, possibly with the same service being held twice during the morning. Please check the church website and facebook page next weekend for confirmation and for further information.
